September 2019: Self-Care

While your Physiotherapy appointment may be 45-50 minutes, you can make the most of it by extending it out a little longer before AND after.  Here are some tips: 

Before your time with Dr. Devin: 

  • Make sure you are well hydrated – drink a full glass of water when you wake up and then sip water all day.  
  • Eat Mindfully and light – it takes a lot of your energy to digest food.  Your body will have more energy to respond to our treatments if you’re not digesting a full and heavy meal.   In addition, we recommend eating foods with higher prana or life energy like organic fruits and veggies, with healthy fats from avocados, nuts, seeds and coconut.  Its best to stay away from highly processed foods & refined sugars.
  • Take a few minutes to take a few deep, slow, relaxing belly breaths.  This can be while you are driving over or once you arrive, but before your appointment starts. 
  • Take a moment, close your eyes and notice how you feel.  Where are your tensions? Where do you feel good? 
  • Find your feet and find the ground.  

After your time with Dr. Devin

  • Take advantage of our transition room! 20, 15, or even 10 minutes in our transition room can help Dr. Devin’s treatment settle in better.  In today’s world we are constantly bombarded with stimuli that send our nervous system into overdrive. You’ve just received treatment to calm your nervous system, use this time to enjoy how you feel and let your brain take it all in to integrate into your life.
  • Rest! You may notice some big changes over the next 3-4 days post treatment.  It’s good to not “overdo” it during this time. Take 1 less meeting or 1 less play date than you normally would in the few days following treatment. Get good sleep – 7-9 hours per night.   
  • Move! – so when we say Rest, we don’t mean be sedentary  Go for walks outside, do some mindful movement like gentle stretching with full, deep, slow breaths.
